Terms and Conditions

1. WEEKLY PROGRAM:
– A guided tour in the historic town of Macerata
– A nature hike
– One day in a City of Arts
– One hands-on cooking class for foodies
– One Art History class/ Music History class

2. In case of didactic differences inside a course, the school may decide to divide that
course into small groups as follows: 4-5 students: three classes/day, 2-3 students: two 1/2 classes/day, 1 student: one 12 classes/day. 1 class=55minutes. Learning in the small group is more enjoyable and more effective than in a 6 -12 people course, that is why you can achieve the same results.

3. No individual courses on Friday afternoons.

4. to follow the course “Italian for two”, the two students must have similar levels of
knowledge of the Italian Language

5. Prices are indicated for one week packages. For different needs, please contact the school.

6. Classes will take their cue from the most popular Italian pop songs. Each class will touch a different grammar topic and songs will be used to introduce a range of subjects for discussion.
Two 1½ hour classes per week. Classes will be given by a professional voice trainer.

7. 15 hours of classes per week + 6 hours (3 classes of 2 hours) painting class. It is possible to book oil panting classes for stays longer than1 week.
Guided visits to museums and artistic sites in Macerata and surrounding areas on request.

8. 20 classes per week: 10 classes of contemporary Italian + 10 classes of libretto reading.
– It is possible, on demand, to follow Opera singing classes with a professional trainer (ask in advance at school desk).
– If you are with us in July or August, we can reserve a ticket for you to attend a performance during the famous Sferisterio Opera Festival in Macerata (early booking is suggested).

9. 1 week: 3 days, 6 classes.
– The seminar is divided into 3 parts of 2 classes each:
Part 1: Historical Overview on Italian Melodrama between the 18th century (Pergolesi, Scarlatti, Cimarosa, Paisiello, etc.) and 19th century (from Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini to Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, etc.), the so called ‘classical era’ of Bel canto.
– Forms: the air, the recitative, the ensemble piece, Duet, Trio, etc., the choir, the Concerted, etc .;
– Style and vocal technique: the ornamentation, the virtuosity, the cadence, the ‘Mass of voice’, the ‘falsetto’;
– The characterization of the characters and stereotypes (in kind ‘serious’ and that ‘funny’);
– The construction of the Libretto: the metric, rhymed verse, the verse (and their relationship with the musical accent), the topos metric (the quinary, the octonary, the hendecasyllable, etc.).

Part 2 and 3: Analysis of the Libretto (and comment on the musical score) of one or more particular Operas, considering the main arias or the most representative episodes.

– Opera singing classes are on request

10. The Italian language course can be at any level as the student requires, and is held at our school. The Italian cooking classes take place in the home of the cooking instructor. The wine tasting seminar is held in the “enoteca” in Macerata, or one of the beautiful wineries of the surroundings.
Teaching materials are not included.

11. Classes will take place in PLIDA certification exams preceding weeks as shown on the yearly calendar. Exams will be held at Italiano & Co. – Lingua e Cultura.
